Ori's going in for surgery

It's routine surgery (if there is such a thing).

They're removing his port, which was placed under his skin at the top left of his chest, a couple inches above the left nipple, way back when he was first diagnosed. They've been using that to draw blood and administer chemo at our weekly appointments. But since we moved to monthly appointments, they have less need for that and recommend its removal. (Blood draws are done via the back of his hand now - he does quite well with that... the skin is numbed ahead of time w/ a topical cream.)

So, Monday morning we head to the clinic for a regular appointment (including a check of his counts to see if he can finally restart the chemo that has been on hold since his flu-caused visit to the hospital a month ago), followed by a walk across the parking lot to the out-patient surgery center for the procedure. That part is nice, that it's out-patient and we'll be back home by the afternoon.

And going forward, no foreign bodies mean less reason to suspect infection with any future fevers, which lessens the likelihood that we'll be admitted to the hospital for any such occurrences. Hooray for that!
