Ori celebrated his 10th birthday on Wednesday! He had a terrific day swimming, playing and enjoying yummy food. It's the first birthday he has experienced without being on chemo treatment since he turned 2. So many birthdays we have celebrated with cancer. But hopefully those days are behind us!
Ori is still making excellent progress. He has been completely off of the immunosuppressant medication for over two months, and he is no longer experiencing any graft vs. host disease. His organs are all functioning normally, and there is still no evidence of disease (leukemia) in his bone marrow. He is feeling great, and enjoying playing with friends and swimming in the pool.
Our lives have slowly shifted back to a normal place, and we are now only visiting the clinic once a month. It's a relief to have so much time between appointments. I feel like I have time to breathe and feel normal. It's hard not to get anxious as the appointment approaches each month. We just never know when or if we might receive news.
I try not to think about cancer too much and instead enjoy each normal day, spending time thinking about other things. But it's always there, like a giant elephant in the room. I've learned to live with it, but it sure does take up space sometimes and make my world feel a bit cluttered! At least it stays in its corner and out of sight most days.
