'Twas a few nights before Christmas and here we are again, back in a hospital bed at Phoenix Children's. We're ready to turn the page on this month and welcome in 2010!
It all started back on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Ori woke up with congestion and sneezing. That evolved into a cold for a week, which then developed into strep throat. Along the way, Andon caught the cold, of course, and he developed an ear infection.
After two weeks of all the interrupted sleep and achy, icky miserable feeling that a cold (and strep throat) can cause, Ori was finally feeling healthy again.
For a couple days.
Then the fever hit.
A fever and a weak immune system can be a scary combination (possible bacterial infection). For kids like Ori, it's an automatic trip to the ER. And so we went, last night. After further tests (7.5 hrs worth), we were finally upstairs in a hospital room at 1:00am.
For now, the goal is to be home some time Tuesday. That'd still leave time to read Richard Scarry's "'Twas the Night Before the Night Before Christmas" from the comfort of his own bed on that actual day (aka Wednesday). But, his body has to cooperate and recover by then.
So far, the signs are pointing toward the fever being caused by a virus, which just has to run its course. He's not showing any signs, nor is his blood culture they're watching for 48 hrs, of bacterial infection.
With any luck, we may get out of here on schedule. But, it's coming up on the 24 hr mark as I type this and he's just registered his highest fever so far (102.9), so, maybe a little Christmas wishing wouldn't hurt, either.
Happily, Andon is at the end of his antibiotic regimen for his ear infection and is feeling/acting just fine now. Hopefully big brother will be right behind him...
