Last week we learned that a Phoenix firefighter died while on duty. Our family feels a great connection to the Phoenix firefighters, and even though we had never met Firefighter Bradley, we shared the news with the boys.
Ori asked lots of questions. He's only six, but he understands the great risks that firefighters take. He knows it's a dangerous job. He decided that he'd like to go visit Firefighter Bradley's fire station soon.
Since Ori was feeling better last weekend, he went to visit Station 9 to help them wash the ladder truck. While he was there he noticed that the number on the side of each truck had a strip of black tape running through it. When he asked Firefighter Greg about it he explained to Ori that it was the firefighters way of showing respect and honoring the memory of Firefighter Bradley. He told him that all the stations in Phoenix had done the same thing.
When Ori got home he got busy making something. About ten minutes later he came out of his room with this on.
He made a black strip and taped it over his helmet. His way of honoring a fellow firefighter.
After all, he's part of the brotherhood.
