Port Free

It's been three weeks since Ori had surgery to remove his port.  He was so excited!  The surgery went well and the incision is all healed.  We can already tell that he feels a bit more adventurous now that it's gone, and that is a great thing.

We were supposed to go on a celebratory trip to Disneyland the week after the surgery, but things have been delayed since the outbreak of measles.  Since measles is so contagious and Ori has no immunity to the disease, we have had to stay home these past few weeks while we waited to see if it would spread.

The boys haven't minded staying home, but I will admit that I was very upset when we first learned about the measles outbreak.  Finally, Ori is done with chemo AND his numbers are high enough for us to get out and about AND he no longer has a port!  But instead of going to Disneyland, the local museum or even the park, we have stayed home.  It's been a very frustrating experience.  Needless to say we have been watching the current debate about vaccinations very closely.

We are hopeful that no more cases of measles will appear so that we can start getting out again.  Baseball season begins at the end of the month, the boys want to go see a play, and Ori just wants to go to the grocery store.  Yeah, he can't even do something as simple as go to the grocery store.

But, like always, we've made the best of it.  It's what life is for us today, so we'll make it great no matter what.
