PEG in the leg

Ori had another chemo treatment today, this time via a shot called PEG. (And Steely Dan echoes in my head.) It's a shot given in the top of the thigh muscle, and even with a topical numbing cream, it still brought out wailing cries and tears.

What's been most inspiring this week has been Ori's ability/willingness to go with the flow. Of course, he doesn't know any different; as far as he's concerned, this is just a trip we've taken. But, he could be withdrawing from the nurses or fighting when it comes time to take medicine.

Instead he willingly sits up to take his oral meds and helpfully holds out his arm for his blood pressure checks and opens his mouth wide when they ask. And soon after his PEG shot, he was back in his bed (they do the shot in a neutral room, so his own room remains a safe place for him), acting like himself.

And it looks like he'll get to feel even more like himself, back in his own crib tonight! The doctor just came in to tell us Ori's responding well to that shot, so paperwork is being drawn up and we should be discharged and on our way home before dinner!

Hooray for heading home! Hopefully soft cuddly things are the routine now (for the most part).

Ori has his parents' strength. I imagine that his will sometimes sustain you as well. Trader Joe's is on its way.
