The summer haircut

Three years ago, when Ori was first diagnosed, we told him his hair loss (due to the chemo drug Doxorubicin) was his "baby hair" falling out.  That was a more understandable concept for a 2-year-old (like that of baby teeth falling out).  And we didn't want him to connect that hair loss with his meds, which he was so willingly taking.

This time around, a few months shy of turning 6, he's much more aware of what's going on and asking tons of questions.  So we decided to tell him outright that he'd lose his hair due to that same Doxorubicin medicine.

He took it well.

And unlike last time, when we left a full head of hair on his head to fall out one long strand at a time, this time we encouraged him to cut it all off in advance.

He was resistant at first.  Then the hair started falling out little by little, annoyingly getting in his mouth, in his food, in his eyes.

So he finally relented...

Everyone at the oncology clinic was calling it his summer haircut.  Nice.  : )

But his resistance didn't break that easily.  He had to be convinced with a little company and motivational encouragement from little brother...

And, to be honest, even Andon was a little hesitant to follow his big brother's lead.  In fact, Ori wouldn't even agree to getting the buzz cut in the first place unless someone else in the family committed to it as well.

He didn't have to ask twice...

Now we're one big, bald happy family!  : )
