One Down, Seven More to Go

We finally made it to the hospital this past weekend for Ori's treatment.  He did pretty well considering.  The chemo was one that he has taken in the past, but this time it was a higher dose.  That made for some uncomfortable times for Ori.

The first day at the hospital was great.  Ori was having fun seeing his friends and visiting the playroom.  But by day 2 the effects of the chemo were setting in.  Ori became tired and a little sick to his stomach.  Then the fevers came.

The biggest side effect of this chemo is a really high fever that can't be controlled very much even with tylenol.  Poor Ori had to endure hours of high fevers without having much to make him feel more comfortable.  He even had moments of confusion, waking up to tell me to "just set it over there" and "remember we already did that".

The side effects subsided about twelve hours after the last dose of chemo was given.  It was amazing how quickly Ori just felt normal again.  I am glad he won't have to endure this chemo again for another 5 weeks.

Since the chemo was so intense, we are giving Ori a shot of medicine every day at home to help his body produce white blood cells.  This will help him recover faster.  It's no fun getting a shot at home, but at least Ori is earning $1 for each shot.  We figured getting a shot is work, especially when you have to get 14 of them.  Why not get paid for it!

The boys are enjoying being back together, playing and having fun.  It's nice to have the next few weeks ahead of us without any hospital stays.  We're going to plant a garden and enjoy some fun time outside.
