The Thursday before Christmas was the day Ori was supposed to begin his next phase of chemotherapy treatment. Thank goodness his body wasn't ready to start! He began the treatment a week later, the Thursday after Christmas, and he has been knocked out ever since. He has been exhausted from the 4 different chemo treatments he received and the daily doses of steroid. Today was the first day that he actually got off the couch and felt like playing.
What a different Christmas he would have had if his body had been ready for chemo before Christmas...
We are so grateful that he was able to have tons of energy for Christmas! He and Andon had so much fun! They especially loved their new bikes.
Tomorrow is the last day for steroids for Ori. He should start feeling much better within a few days (the steroids can make you feel like you have the flu). He will have to take the steroids again in a week, but hopefully he'll feel like himself before then so that he can enjoy riding his bike and having fun with Andon.
It was a little surprising for all of us to see Ori so exhausted. It's been quite a while since he's had such a large dose of chemo all at once. We know that it passes and he eventually feels like himself again, but it can still be a bit jarring. One day Ori is running around all day long, and the next he can barely get up to eat.
He still manages to keep his spirits high through it all. He is truly an amazingly optimistic and happy kid. We just love him.
